laxforsen - wildlife around the corner

A 30 minutes drive from Göteborg you'll find Laxforsen, placed in the amazing nature of Anneberg. With your own cottage, sauna, raft and an entire lake at your disposal Laxforsen is the natural choice when it comes to creating long lasting memories with friends or family.

Being at Laxforsen is like coming home, and it is easy to be blinded by the beauty that constantly lies before your eyes when you are here. Large forests spread out around the lake, the swan couple with their kids lying bobbing in the reeds and the boat whisper of the giant pike that have not yet been drawn up. Even though the city is near, it's almost always quiet out here, and to have the whole area to yourself is what makes it unique.

The lake cottage is rented out year round and continues to be a place people comes back to. Midsummer on the patio, fishing from the raft at dawn, a beer in the wood burning tub under the starry sky. Or why not chancellery picking in the forest or a swim in an ice hole before running in to the sauna again?

Laxforsen have experiences to offer all year round whether you are a professional fisherman, looking for a place to have the bachelor party or want a weekend out of the ordinary with the class, family, association or company. You are the one who sets the limits.

Since 1600th century there have lived people here beside and below the lake when millers and farmhands working at the minimum and termination of Djursjöarna (the animal lakes) - Lilla djursjön. The salmon doesn't play in the water anymore, but both perch, carp and pike lies and swims at the inlet and under the bridge. The trails are not trampled by a neighbor running shoes, but the elk and deer moving in the area.

the flour

1800

1806 the mill was built by the villagers in Kyrkotorp. Next to the mill was a croft (see picture above) where millers and later engineer for the power plant lived. The cottage was demolished in 1935 but the renovated mill house is still there today.

The traces of the ancient heroes, we find all around Laxforsen. It evokes feelings of humility and respect for the people who created the conditions for our modern society.

electricity

1900

In the early 1900s the villagers all came together to electrify rural areas and in 1915 they inaugurated the power plant on Laxforsen, then called Djursjöbäcken. The farmers in the region struggled to build dams and power stations and pulled cables as far away as Annebergs town center. As the cables were pulled the farms started to lit up one by one. It costed 6 swedish krona per 25 W lamp and year.

the salmon farm

1950

Fish farming has been conducted on Laxforsen since the 50s. Many 10's of millions of salmon roe reared in the facility to then be resold to salmon breeders and eventually end up on the dinner table. A few thousand salmon roe have been retained each year within the plant to be fed to large fish. Those were then planted in the lake or resold for restocking of put and take lakes.

When the plant was at its peak during the 1980-90's Laxforsen was one of the most modern fish farms in the world. Here traveled growers from all over the world to learn about fish farming. EWOS, a subsidiary of Alfa-Laval, were the ones who owned and ran the farm. 2008 the fish farm was completely phased out and Laxforsen was instead focused on rental. Nevertheless, there are still three ponds left with big salmons that reminds us of what previously was conducted here.
